Study on Pollen Morphology and Its Geohistoric Significance of Two Endangered Elms Peculiar to Mt. Langya, Anhui Province, China

详细信息
摘要

Pollen morphology of two endangered elms peculiar to Mt. Langya were examined and described comprehensively under light Microscope (LM). They are Ulmus gaussenii Cheng and U. chenmoui Cheng. The result shows that the pollen grains are mainly subspheroidal in shape and polygonal to rounded or irregular-shaped in polar view. The ornamentation of exine is verrucate, the apertures with 4-6 pores are located in equator and subequator. U. gaussenii morphology showed typical endangered characteristics when compared with U.pumila. Their geographical distribution, local altitude, annual precipitation and annual accumulated temperature, especially the March climate, were studied to discuss the relationship between the pollen species, morphology, habitat and environment conditions.
