Relationship between In Situ Pollen of Pityostrobus sp. and Dispersed Pollen in Jurassic of Yaojie, Gansu Province

Cupressaceae is one of the most prosperous genera of gymnosperms in the Jurassic. The in situ pollen of the Middle Jurassic Pityostrobus sp. from the Yaojie Basin in Gansu Province is studied by lab experimental analysis and microscopic identification. Combining with the morphological characteristics of current Pinaceae pollen, this paper analyzes and contrasts the relationship between in situ pollen of Jurassic Pityostrobus sp. and dispersed pollen in the strata. The comparison suggests that Piceites arxanensis is pollen of Pityostrobus sp. and the latter is maternal plants of the former. The research on characteristics of in situ pollen of Pityostrobus sp. fossils has some guiding significance for the taxonomic identification of ancient Coniferopsida fossils.
