Shale gas, as an unconventional natural gas, mainly exists in states of absorption or free. The Qiannan sag experienced the phase of the passive ocean margin rift basin in the early Cambrian, deposited a set of marine facies shale. By means of information of outcrop, well and their geochemistry, the lower Cambrian Niutitang Formation (Zhalagou Formation) in the Qiannan sag has high abundance of organic matter(TOC in range of 2.0%~5%), high maturity (RO between 1.3%~3%), high thickness (maximum value is about 350 m), micro-fractures, and moderate depth. Thus, it is of favorable conditions for shale gas accumulation. Selected parameters suggest that the eastern Guiyang-Dushan area in the northeast part of the Qiannan sag would be a favorable place for lower Cambrian Niutitang shale gas exploration.
