///The paper is to focus on the research of CTT-carbonate-type tailings (i.e.carbonate-rich tailings) discarded by the metal sulfide mines in north Guangxi and its adjacent districts.Methods such as X-ray diffraction, Sobek-ANC static test and Carb-ANC mineral calculation, NAG test, and Sobek-ABA, etc. were used to probe into CTT’s neutralization capacity and acidification potential,and define the threshold value for predicting acidification of CTT. The results demonstrate that: 1) the CTT can be classified into four types based on the ingredient of carbonate in tailings, they are calcite type, dolomite type,ankerite type and calcite-dolomite mixing type respectively; 2) the threshold values for predicting acidification of CTT’ are: ANC<400 kg H2SO4/t, sulfide-S (Sulfide-S=Total-S-Sulfate-S)>3.0 %, APR<1.4, NAPP>-50 kg H2SO4/t. In contrast with the threshold values used commonly in European-America states, the CCT’s ANC and Sulfide-S are about 40 and 10 times higher respectively; the APR (acid potential ratio) is also higher (common APR<1), while the NAPP (net acid production potential) is significantly lower (common NAPP>+20 kg H2SO4/t).
