Lots of Permian coal exploration has been done in the eastern margin of the Ordos Basin. Coal bed methane (CBM) exploration has been lasting for a long time with high exploration level. CBM pilots have gotten good achievements. The Fairway area in San Juan Basin has the highest CBM production called” sweet spot". This paper discusses coal seam features, reservoir characteristics, and trap performances in the "sweet spot" of the eastern margin of the Ordos Basin in detail to guide CBM exploitation in other areas in terms of similar geological condition.
