The alkaline basalt and mantle xenoliths from the volcanic rocks in the south of Shuangliao Basin are studied thoroughly by means of conventional thin sections, analysis of petrogeochemistry, inclusion micrography and Laser Roman spectroscopy. The volcanic rocks in the Shuangliao Basin are mainly alkaline olivine basalt, in which the mantle xenoliths are well developed. The scale of Shuangliao volcanic activity is not very strong, but it has the ability to release a large number of CO2. It is considered that the CO2- and H2O- rich alkaline basaltic magma might not erupt to the surface, instead, move upwards along the deep fault into the basin, being one of the sources of the inorganic CO2 gas reservoirs.
