Prospecting the unconventional gas potentials of the Daqing oil field and its peripheral basins is of great significance to the sustainable development of PetroChina Daqing Oilfield Company. In view of this, the study area includes the Daqing oil field and over 10 Meso-Cenozoic sedimentary basins. An analysis reveals that the unconventional gas resources in the study area is abundant and is dominated by tight gas and coalbed methane gas. The tight gas mainly occur in the northern Songliao Basin and several other peripheral basins with the estimated gas resources of 1.2 tcm, while the coalbed methane gas is mainly distributed in the peripheral basins such as Hailaer, Hegang and Jixi with the estimated gas resources of 2.1 tcm.
