Taking a slope in a hydropower project zone as the research object and combined with the regional topography and geology conditions, both the limit equilibrium method and the finite element method are used to study the stability of the natural slope and back analyze the mechanical parameters of the rock mass so as to verify the reliability of the designed strength parameters. The calculation results show that the damage zones in a fully-strongly weathered rock mass will almost disappear when the cohesion C increases to 0.25 MPa and φ increases to 28.8° for a strongly weathered rock mass, as well as C increase from 0.1 MPa to 0.175 MPa for a fully weathered rock mass. This state is in accordance with the stability of the natural slope. Therefore, reliable parameters are provided for the subsequent stepped excavation of the slope.
