The Huahaiz Basin(Suganhu Basin), lying in the west of Gansu Province, China, is surrounded by the A1 tun Mountains and the Qilian Mountains where the rocks are constitute of Pre-Mesozoic. It is an intermountain basin in the far west of the Qinghai-Xizang (Tibet) Plateau,with the elevation of 2 800 3 200 meters. The annual mean temperature at the west of the basin is 2. 75 ~C, the mean annual precipitation, 18. 7 mm, and the evaporation, 2 967.2 mm. The basin is under the influence of the highland frigid climate of the arid region. The surface sediments in the basin are considered to be Late Pleistocene and Holocene in age.
