Based on an analysis of the Zhaojiaan landslide caused by water level rise in the reservoir at the other side of a loess ridge, this paper presents a method to analyze and control the landslide risk through controlling water levels of the reservoir. According to the theory of landslide risk management, risk of property and life is evaluated when water levels change in the reservoir. The reasonable reservoir water level is determined, considering both the acceptable risk and the water supplement, and an integrated risk control approach including relocation, drainage and water level control is put forward.
