Structure Deformation and Tectonic Significance of Erqis Fault Zone in the Southern Margin of Chinese Altay
详细信息
摘要
As one of the most significant regional faults in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, the Erqis fault was hotly debated on its kinematics. Three representative models have been proposed: strike-slip fault, thrust fault or transpressional fault. Our work in southern margin of the Chinese Altay indicates that the Erqis fault and its subordinate faults compose the Erqis fault zone, which is a ductile high strain zone with 20 ~ 40km in width and 400km in length, and experienced variable deformation. All the southern margin of the Chinese Altay was influenced by ductile shearing. The Erqis fault zone experienced two tectonic events: sinistral strike-slip and dextral strike-slip shearing. Combining our work with the existing studies of the ductile-shear-zone-type gold deposits, syntectonic deformed plutons and 40Ar/39Ar ages in metamorphic rocks,it is inferred that the sinistral strike-slip event occurred in the Early Permian ( 283 ~ 275Ma) . Thereafter, probably in the Late Permian ( 260 ~ 245Ma) ,the Erqis fault zone was partially modified by a dextral strike-slip event which was much weaker than the former. Furthermore, based on the establishment of the kinematic model of the Erqis fault zone, important lines of evidence have been brought forward to discussing the post-orogenic adjustment during the Permian in North Xinjiang and the Central Asian Orogenic Belt.
