Copper-deficiency nanoscale copper selenide has attracted considerable attention due to the simple formula and wealth of properties for diverse applications. Ultra-small PEGylated Cu2−xSe nanocrystals with strong near-infrared absorption were synthesized and described by Z. Li and co-workers on page 8927. These ultra-small nanocrystals are shown to be an ideal nano-theranostic agent for photoacoustic imaging, computed tomography imaging, single-photon emission computed tomography imaging, and photothermal therapy of cancer.
