A monodisperse drug delivery nanostructure based on a polyhe
dral borane scaffold, featuring diagnostic
and targeting functionalities, delivers high-payload of the anticancer agent Chlora
mbucil selectively to cancer cells,
mediated through GLUT-1 receptors. This results in enhanced cytotoxicity co
mpared to the non-targeted parent
drug. Further
more, it was found to localize in the
mitochon
dria of the cell rather than in the nucleus, raising hopes for co
mbating
drug resistance associated with Chlora
mbucil. More infor
mation can be found in the Full Paper by M. F.
