Au nanocrystals are grown on the tips of CdSxSe1−x (x = 0–1) anisotropic semiconductor nanocrystals. The growth mechanism is investigated. The influence of the S:Se ratio in tuning the excited-state properties of Au/CdSxSe1−x anisotropic nanocrystals and its influence on the photocurrent response and hydrogen production rate are discussed.
