Excitatory amino acid transporters (EAATs)-mediated glutamate reuptake dysfunction involved in the pathogenesis of depression. Sub-anesthetic doses of ketamine induced antidepressant-like effects in rats. Ketamine up-regulated the expression of EAATs and decreased the concentration of extracellular glutamate in the hippocampus of depressive-like rats.
