The structure and electrochemistry of [3Fe-4S] iron-sulfur proteins from different biological sources was revised. In most cases the [3Fe-4S] assembly arises from degradation of a [4Fe-4S] moiety. The role of [3Fe-4S] iron-sulfur proteins in biology is still controversial and would benefit by a more detailed study of their electrochemical properties.
