Relapse to unhealthy eating habits in dieters is often triggered by acute stress. The role of chronic stress in relapse vulnerability, however, is less clear. We assessed the role of chronic stress in relapse to palatable food seeking in rats. Chronically stressed rats displayed increased food seeking 7 days after stress. Blockade of D1-like receptors during chronic stress reversed this effect.
