Isosteric heat of adsorption depends on both adsorption uptake and temperature. An analytical method is provided to calculate the true isosteric heats of adsorption. This method considers both the real gas behavior and the adsorbed phase volume. The Clausius–Clapeyron method overestimates isosteric heats of adsorption for high pressure methane in shale.
