A low cost zeolite fly ash bead/TiO2 (ZFABT) composite material was prepared.

ZFABT surface morphologies were controlled by alkali activation method.

ZFABT surface could control and modulate adsorption and photocatalytic performance.

Suitable pore structure provides better balance for photoreaction parameters.

High surface intraparticle diffusion rate allows for high photocatalytic effects.
