Specificity protein 1 drives P2rx7 and microRNA-22 transcription in vitro. Specificity protein 1 induces P2rx7 and microRNA-22 transcription in the brain after prolonged seizures. Binding of specificity protein 1 to the promoter region of microRNA-22 is dependent on neuronal activity. Specificity protein 1-induced transcription of microRNA-22 is dependent on intracellular calcium levels.
