Mechanical strain induced wetting transitions between anisotropic and isotropic on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) films patterned by optical discs

Optical discs such as CD and DVD pattern were imprinted on PDMS by soft imprint lithography.

CD templated PDMS was found to have wetting anisotropy larger than DVD depending upon amplitude to periodicity ratio.

The wettability of CD templated PDMS was tuned by mechanical strain.

Dynamic wettability of CD and DVD templated PDMS was also studied.

These findings may be useful in controlling the direction of liquid flow such as in microfluidics.
