We model the impact of solar and wind power generation on day-ahead electricity prices. We discuss the different nature of renewables in relation to market design. We explore the impact of renewables on the distributional properties of electricity prices. Solar and wind reduce electricity prices but affect price volatility in the opposite way. Solar decreases the probability of electricity price spikes, while wind increases it.
