Label-free optical immunosensors were developed to detect artemisinin from herb Artemisia annua.

Direct and competitive OWLS sensors were optimised for artemisinin, artesunate and artemether.

Cross-reactivities by different artemisinin derivatives well correspond to data in literature.

Significant concentrations of artemisinin were found in sweet wormwood (Artemisia annua).

Artemisinin was also found in A. absinthium and in green A. vulgaris at minor concentrations.
