Preparation of directionally solidified BaTi2O5-Ba6Ti17O40 eutectic by the floating zone method

BaTi2O5–Ba6Ti17O40 eutectic was prepared by a floating zone method. Polygonally faceted Ba6Ti17O40 rods formed in a BaTi2O5 matrix. Ferroelectric phase of BaTi2O5 was perfectly oriented. Growth rate of the eutectics was higher than that of BaTi2O5 single crystals. The Ba6Ti17O40 interspacing in BaTi2O5 decreased with increasing growth rate.
