Bcl6 is the master transcriptional regulator of follicular helper T (TFH) cells. Bcl6 is highly up-regulated in activated CD4 T cells following glucose deprivation. The glycolysis inhibitor and glucose analog 2-deoxyglucose (2DG) induces Bcl6 expression in activated CD4 T cells. AMPK induces BCL6 expression and a partial TFH phenotype in both mouse and human T cells.
