Magnetic mineral and sediment porosity distribution on a storm-dominated shelf investigated by benthic electromagnetic profiling (Bay of Plenty, New Zealand)
First large-scale survey with an innovative benthic electromagnetic profiler (MARUM NERIDIS III) Near-surface electromagnetic properties (magnetic susceptibility and electric conductivity) are presented. Complementing sample material is analyzed for their magnetic properties, and magnetic minerals are identified. A conceptual model for the formation of heavy mineral enrichments by selective entrainment is developed.
