Three hundred twenty-eight E. coli, 35 Klebsiella spp., (1 K. oxytoca and 34 K. pneumoniae) and 16 Enterobacter spp. (1 E. aerogenes and 15 E. cloacae) well-characterized isolates nonsusceptible to third-generation cephalosporins were tested by broth microdilution antimicrobial susceptibility testing. The following concentration ranges were included: ampicillin/sulbactam (2/4–16/4 mg/L), amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (4/2–32/2 mg/L), piperacillin/tazobactam (1/4–128/4 mg/L), mecillinam (0.5–64 mg/L), mecillinam/clavulanic acid (0.5/4–64/4 mg/L), and temocillin (1–128 mg/L). Our study gives insight in β-lactam MIC distributions of a collection of well-characterized German 3GCREB isolates. Several β-lactam antibiotics showed good in vitro activity and may serve as treatment options for infections.
