PYY gene was first identified and cloned from an avian species. NPY, PYY and PP are differentially expressed in chicken tissues. Chicken NPY receptors (Y1, Y4, Y6) contain novel non-coding exon(s) at their 5′UTR. Chicken Y1 and Y4 (but not Y6) are capable of transmitting signals in vitro. The expression of chicken Y1, Y4 and Y6 is driven by their promoter near exon 1.
