Crystallization of aragonite on aragonite seeds is controlled by surface diffusion. Orthophosphate ions (<8 µM) act as inhibitors of aragonite crystallization. Orthophosphate ions have a dose-dependent effect on aragonite crystallization. The uptake of orthophosphate ions on aragonite crystals fits to the Langmuir model.
