Modeling and simulation of counterflow wet-cooling towers and the accurate calculation and correlation of mass transfer coefficients for thermal performance prediction
Detailed mathematical derivation is given for a continuous differential air-water contactor (CDAWC) model of cooling towers. The CDAWC model is valid for a bulk gas phase of unsaturated or supersaturated air. The CDAWC model equations are mathematically much simpler than those of previous models. A simulation method is proposed for the accurate calculation of volumetric mass transfer coefficients in cooling towers. Simulation-based volumetric mass transfer coefficients are correlated accurately in terms of cooling-tower inlet quantities.
