Counter-flow exchanger is analyzed for axial wall conduction and external heat flux. Analytical solutions are verified numerically and validated against limiting cases. Degradation is evaluated through net energy reaching lower stages of refrigeration. Heat in-leak rises with NTU and performance thus exhibits a critical NTU. At larger NTU, deterioration is highest if cold fluid has lower capacity rate.
