The near infrared (NIR) reflectance of TiO2 containing surfaces was investigated.
The NIR reflectance of anatase containing materials increased upon natural aging.
The effect was ascribed to the generation of HNO3 by NOx photocatalytic degradation.
This combines positive air purification and improvements in optical-radiative properties.
The finding is a countertrend, as typically aged materials lose solar reflectance.
