Mice lacking mGlu1 receptor exhibit decreased bone length and bone mineral density. In mice, mGlu1 receptor absence causes epiphyseal plate premature cessation with subsequent bone growth termination. In vitro, osteoblasts from mice lacking mGlu1 receptor show impaired mineralization. In vitro, osteoblasts lacking mGlu1 receptor express high level of osteocalcin mRNA, marker of osteoblasts mature stage.
