MDMA treatment results in a loss of GAD67-IR hippocampal neurons. MDMA treatment reduces the threshold for kainic acid-induced seizures. The MDMA-induced decrease in GAD67-IR hippocampal neurons and increase in seizure susceptibility appear to involve glutamate receptor mechanisms.
