We present the macroscopic spray characteristics at engine-like (70 bar) conditions. Results are presented for four biodiesels and compared with mineral diesel. HVO had the lowest density and achieves the shortest penetration distance by 5%. Fuel liquid viscosity was a significant factor on the observed air-fuel mixing process. The Hiroyasu & Arai spray model was extended to include alternative bio-fuels.
