Nanoparticulate versus ionic silver: Behavior in the tank water, bioaccumulation, elimination and subcellular distribution in the freshwater mussel Dreissena polymorpha
Zebra mussels were able to take up Ag in nanoparticulate and ionic form. Water type and metal form affected Ag behavior in tank water, not bioaccumulation. Subcellular Ag distribution was similar in both exposure groups after 7 days. No Ag elimination occurred during 14 days of depuration. During depuration Ag was translocated to cellular debris.
