A rail coach was fitted with two solar photovoltaic modules on its rooftop. The coach was trial run with three prominent high-speed trains of south India. Solar panels on all coaches in India saves ∼108.5 million litre of diesel annually. Reduces ∼2.9 million tonne of carbon dioxide emission into the atmosphere annually. A statistical model developed to estimate output with irradiance and temperature.
