Effects of area discontinuity on the features of SEOPW were experimentally studied.

Enlargement and contraction affect the pressure oscillation peak differently.

The affected peak is also greatly related to inlet pressure and standoff distance.

Contraction causes a larger pressure oscillation amplitude than enlargement does.

Area discontinuity nearly has no effects on the oscillating frequency of SEOPW.
