The autopsy of prion disease patients is often difficult because of the fear of infectivity. The autopsy is crucial to surveys of prion disease outbreaks. To increase the number of these autopsies, our team has established the autopsy system. There is an urgent need to accumulate more autopsy cases and to carefully analyze the results. Our efforts may encourage new approaches that ultimately increase the number of prion autopsies.
