EPS enhanced Zn sorption on γ-alumina at pH 5.5, but suppressed Zn sorption at pH 7.5. Zn + EPS + γ-alumina ternary complex was formed at both pH 5.5 and 7.5. More EPS were sorbed on minerals at pH 5.5 than at pH 7.5. Carboxyl and phosphoryl of EPS is crucial to Zn sorption on the mineral composites.
