Pearl-Chain arches are post-tensioned together and tested to failure. Adjacent Pearl-Chain arches deflect similarly when loaded on one arch only. At 84–94% of the failure load the arches showed cracking and spalling. Plastic hinges formed at the 3/8 and 5/8 points when approaching max loading. Decks showed concentration of strains in areas of light aggregate concrete blocks.
