Cashew nut roasting generated high concentrations of fine particulate matter. BMCyt biomarkers were efficient to assess the risk of artisanal cashew nut roasting. PAH exposure was confirmed by increases in urinary 1-OHP levels in cashew nut workers. Biomarkers of exposure (1-OHP) and effects (micronuclei) were positively correlated. This activity is a serious occupational problem with harmful effects on workers' health.
