PLS-PM is a useful method for examining the effects of farming practices in a systemic manner. The study separated the confounding effects of farming practices on weed and crop yield. Farming intensity increased crop productivity indirectly by reducing weed pressure. Direct and indirect effects of farming intensity varied by preceding crop and herbicide use. Weed management is a key component to sustaining productivity.
