Galvanic corrosion of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer surrounded by aluminum wires was investigated. Al(OH)3 gel formed between the aluminum wires. A rapid decay in galvanic corrosion rate coincided with the formation of Al(OH)3. The decay was caused by the Al(OH)3 gel restricting O2 transport to the cathode. Modeling provided support to the observation.
