Changes of ATRX nuclear distribution occur during early mouse development. In zygotes and morulae, ATRX has a predominantly diffuse nuclear distribution, whereas its concentration in separate heterochromatin regions is most expressed at the late 2-cell stage. After the end of ZGA, ATRX distribution does not depend significantly on the level of nuclear transcriptional activity.
