Charge state and energy transfer investigation of iron-chromium co-doped ZnS polycrystalline prepared by step-temperature diffusion for mid-infrared laser applications

Cr,Fe:ZnS polycrystalline was prepared by step-temperature diffusion method. Spectroscopic characterization of Cr,Fe:ZnS polycrystalline were fist investigated. Chromium and iron are not only in divalent state in ZnS. There exists a fast energy transfer rate from Cr2+ to Fe2+ under Cr2+ excitation. Cr2+→Fe2+ energy transfer can be used in indirect pumping of Fe2+ mid-IR laser.
