Plasma free tryptophan controls tryptophan availability for the kynurenine pathway. Flux of Trp down the KP is more effective than TDO/IDO induction. Plasma tryptophan is controlled normally by Liver TDO. IDO controls plasma tryptophan after immune activation. Tryptophan availability is increased by pregnancy, birth, exercise, protein and fat.
