GWR performed better than OLS in exploring the effects of urban expansion on urban spatial patterns. The relationships between urban spatial patterns and urbanization varied spatiotemporally. The relative importance and temporal dynamics of the driving factors of urban expansion were analyzed by CA model. The integration of GWR and CA model is helpful to mitigate the negative effects of urban expansion on spatial patterns.
