Wurtzite CdS films assembled from nanocrystals have enhanced photocatalytic activity. The superior photocatalytic activity is attributed to the exposed {0001} facets. A charge separation model between CdS polar (0001) and (0001¯) facets is proposed. There is an internal electric field between Cd-CdS (0001) and S-CdS (0001¯) planes. The photogenerated electrons and holes separate under the internal electric field.
