Chemically exfoliated MoS2 (ce-MoS2) is explored as electrode material for CDI technique. Both high quality and volume specific salt removal capacity have been demonstrated. Enhanced ion intercalation, transportation and electrostatic attraction are observed. The large layer-to-layer space and abundant negative charges of the 1T phase promotes significantly the CDI process.
